Description

pump spout core pattern; rectangular block, chamfered around outside face, channeled on inside face in letter "J" shape, with semi-circular cut on each of (.01) and (.02) and running from one side through to the far end (.02) is pegged (.01) socketed; traces of varnish on inside or casting surfaces; surface broken at mid-point of long chamfer on both sides of (.01) & (.02)

History

Henry E Chutterson, born May 31, 1845 and died May 28, 1925 was the owner of this item. He was a carpenter by trade; it is possible he framed barns; informant of donor told him that spouts for wooden pumps were usually bought from a foundry by the carpenter - perhaps earlier the carpenter had to cast his own spout (?)
