History

Belonged to donor's father, Edwin Bassett Jones who was born 1847 in England. He lived in Chatham and was a volunteer archaeologist. Edwin did a great deal of writing and guest speaking. The cane was made from the General Myers (war of 1812), the boat raised from the Thames River, near Chatham. Jones was fire-chief of Chatham when he was first married, then he was superintendent of waterworks in 1896. He later became city engineer.
