History

Belonged to Miss Margaret Benfield who was born in 1875 and died Dec. 16, 1968. She was a resident of Walkerville, her father being associated with Hiram Walker and Sons ltd. She taught Sunday School at All Saints Anglican Church for more than fifty years and in November of 1968 was presented with a scroll commemorating her work in the church. "Exercises, recognized as beneficial to children as well as to adults, encouraged adoption of styles of clothing associated with physical activity. Photographic studio portraits at the turn of the century often show children in costumes associated with work: the seamen's middy blouse, the worker's smock, or the 'peasant' costumes of various countries." from 391.00973 Hall
