History

Donor's grandmother was Elizabeth Baby, married to Wallace Askin. Elizabeth Baby was the 2nd daughter of Charles Baby (b. Dec. 21, 1806), son of James Baby (who purchased the Mill street house from Duff). The chair was part of a set to have around 18 chairs altogether, which are originally from the Duff-Baby House. The donor says the chairs were made in England and shipped to Canada. The donor has, in addition to the above mentioned armchair, one other arm chair, and 4 straight back chairs, which she says would consider giving to the museum after she is gone (this needs to be followed up).
