Description: Black and white photograph of the Shedden Forwarding Company Limited, located in a Grand Trunk Railway freight shed at 98 Riverside Drive East, northeast corner of Riverside and Station; the shed is a long, one-storey, wooden building; a small sign with "Shedden Forwarding Co. Ltd." is posted on the corner of the building and a ladder is leaning against the wall up to the roof; a horse harnessed to a wagon is stopped in front of the building; the Detroit River is visible in the background.
History: The railroad arrived to Windsor in 1854 with the Great Western Railway (GWR) connecting Niagara Falls and Windsor. In 1882 the Great Western Railway amalgamated with the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR). This eventually would become part of the Canadian National Railway (CNR). Today VIA Rail trains travel along the same route first established in 1854. Station Street was formerly known as both Upper Ferry Street & Brock Street. In 1937 there were street name and address changes due to amalgamation of the border cities in 1935. In an article from the Windsor Daily Star, March 4, 1937, it discusses the reason for the naming of Station Street. "...the short street running from Sandwich Street to the river, first east of Ouellette Avenue. Formerly called Brock Street. It was changed to Water Street, but has now been changed to Station Street because the block between Ouellette Avenue and Ferry Street, north of Sandwich Street West is called Water Street." (pg.3).
