History

In 1937 there were street name and address changes due to amalgamation of the border cities in 1935. In an article from the Windsor Daily Star, March 4, 1937, it discusses the reason for the naming of Station Street. "...the short street running from Sandwich Street to the river, first east of Ouellette Avenue. Formerly called Brock Street. It was changed to Water Street, but has now been changed to Station Street because the block between Ouellette Avenue and Ferry Street, north of Sandwich Street West is called Water Street." (pg.3). Station Street was formerly known as both Upper Ferry Street & Brock Street. The railroad arrived to Windsor in 1854 with the Great Western Railway (GWR) connecting Niagara Falls and Windsor. In 1882 the Great Western Railway amalgamated with the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR). This eventually would become part of the Canadian National Railway (CNR). Today VIA Rail trains travel along the same route first established in 1854.
