Jingle Dress (.1), moccasins (.2.1&.2) and belt (.3)

History

Native American regalia made by local Oneida woman. Regalia consists of a jingle dress, a pair of moccasins and a belt. Known as a jingle dress, this style of regalia isworn by women while they perform a healing dance. The dress is covered in rows of metal tinkling cones that create a jingling noise when the dancer is moving. The sounds of these cones are said to sing out to the spirits as the dancer moves in beat with the drum. Originally an Ojibwe tradition, the jingle dance is now performed by many tribes across North America.
