History

In the spring of 1949, Mrs. Cora Stephenson approached the Windsor Public School Board to request education for handicapped children. The school board approved the request and in September of 1949 Miss Marjorie Box (sister of the donor) was hired to teach. The children were taught at 1 Ouellette Avenue until May 1950 when the facility was moved to 1226 Ouellette. The school was designed for children who could benefit from intensive physical medicine therapy and special teaching techniques. It included physiotherapy, speech therapy and a gym in addition to traditional book work. In 1963, 80% of children at the school suffered from cerebral palsy.
