Description

Black and white photograph of the Kennedy House, located on Riverside Drive West; the house is a square, two-storey brick structure with rectangular windows and four chimneys; there is a wide front staircase leading up to a small covered porch; bare trees surround the house and additional houses can be seen in the background;

History

A hand-written note on the reverse of the photograph reads: "Riverside Drive West (1805) near Crawford, The Kennedy House - Built in 1844 of bricks brought from Amherstburg on lighter at the time of the demolition of Fort Malden. Sold to William Wallace Cruise (father of Lucille Cruise - see donor file) by Capt. R.A. Reynolds." William Wallace Cruise was born in Lambton County in 1860. After some years spent in different parts of the United States and Canada he finally settled in Windsor, where he was district manager for the Singer Mfg. Company. In about 1898 he became identified with the Raymond Mfg. Co. in Guelph. His duties in this connection kept him away from Windsor for a good portion of the year so he decided to enter the real estate field in the city.
