Black and white photograph of a small girl, identified as the first cousin of George F. Macdonald; the girl is standing with her body facing the camera and her head turned slightly to the left; she is wearing a light coloured dress with ruffles at the bottom and buttons running up the centre; she has boots on her crossed feet; her right arm is leaning on a desk behind her and she is holding a strand of large beads in her right hand; behind and to the right is a chair with a basket on top; the photographer's name, George Bruce, appears at the bottom of the photo and a more elaborate seal appears on the reverse: "Prize Medal awarded International exhibition of fine arts, London. George Bruce Photographic Artist Dunse NB Negatives preserved". Handwritten on the reverse is: "Daughter of George Fortune, Mr. George F. Macdonald's mother's brother."

History

Dunse Scotland was renamed Duns in 1882. The Fortune family was from Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland. The NB may refer to North Britain or possibly to Berwickshire.
