History

The Essex Fusiliers were formed in 1885 as the 21st Essex Battalion of Infantry. In 1887 they became the 21st Battalion, Essex Fusiliers, and in 1900 became known as the 21st Regiment, Essex Fusiliers. The unit was disbanded in 1920 and reorganized as different battalions of the Essex Fusiliers and their name changed again in 1927 to the Essex Scottish Regiment. Since 1954 they have been known as the Essex & Kent Scottish Regiment. Lt. Col. Guillot commanded the regiment from 1897 until 1908, when the mantle passed to Lt. Col. Frederick H. Laing.
