Black and white photograph of a partially submerged hull of a section of the Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel; the tunnel hull is submerged about halfway to the top of the tubes; above the water, on top of the hull, there are four cylinders and some scaffolding and cranes.

History

Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River was opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Company of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
