Photo of the Essex Centre Manufacturing building on Talbot St., Essex (Ont.), built in 1883 by Laing, Milne & Co.; the large commercial and industrial building, over 240 feet long, housed the Essex Free Press printing house [its offices were located elsewhere on Talbot St.]; this building also housed the Harrington & Milne Engine Boiler Works, the J.A. Hicks & Son Furniture workshop and the Laing Bros. Lumber service.

History

Approximately 150 glass plate negatives, including the one for this photo, were found in the wreckage of the Brien residence by Rodger Saegert, after it was demolished in May 1959.
