Description: Photo of two unidentified women walking past the residence of Dr. John Wesley Brien, Talbot St. Essex, at wintertime; the I.O.O.F. Lodge, once used as a municipal building is clearly seen across the street; notice the religious aspects of the building's architecture; a triple-arched entrance with columns is seen on this building; Dr. J.W. Brien was a past grand master of the No. 218 Enterprise Lodge of the I.O.O.F. [pictured here]; the large commercial and industrial building on the right housed the Essex Free Press printing house [its offices were located elsewhere on Talbot St.]; this building also housed the Harrington & Milne Engine Boiler Works and the J.A. Hicks & Son Furniture workshop.
History: Approximately 150 glass plate negatives, including the one for this photo, were found in the wreckage of the Brien residence by Rodger Saegert, after it was demolished in May 1959.
