History

Cooperatives were an important feature in the farm economy of 1940s Essex County, which ranked among the leading counties in the field. Similar organizations to the Harrow Cooperative were in operation for the farmers of the Amherstburg, Comber, Cottam, Essex, Kingsville, McGregor, Mersea and Oldcastle areas. Cooperatives handled grain, and some handled livestock as well. They also bought supplies for the farmer, dealing through them in their respective areas.
