History

On 21 November 1891, a contract was awarded for a $50,000 steamer to be launched in 1892. Named the PROMISE, this second new boat fulfilled the Detroit, Belle Isle & Windsor Ferry Company's pledge to the public to add a modern vessel to the fleet. Like all new ferries, the "Promise" was primarily used for excursions during her first few years. When the new docks at the foot of Ouellette were opened in January 1926, "Promise", along with "Pleasure", began 10 minute service, for passengers only (not automobiles) between Windsor and Detroit. "Promise" was put into reserve for emegencies and overloads in 1930 when the opening of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel forced the reduction of the ferry company's active fleet.
