Black and white photograph of the west side of Ouellette Avenue from Chatham Street; streetcar tracks are running through the centre of the street; on the right of the photograph, angled toward the right, is the Windsor Post Office and the Customs Warehouse; to the left of the Post Office there is an open square, behind which are several other buildings; there are two men standing on the corner along with a fire hydrant and a garbage can; electricity wires for the streetcar are visible in the top portion of the photograph and a sign "SHUT OFF POWER" is hanging from a wire in front of the Post Office; the photographer's stamp "A.W. Spurgeon, 1117 Sheppard St. E. 2-4402 Windsor, ONT." is on the back of the photo.

History

The old Windsor Post Office was built in 1879 and stood on the southwest corner of Pitt and Ouellette streets. It was replaced by the Dominion Building in 1934 and is now known as the Edifice Paul Martin Building. This building still houses a post office.
