History

February 1902 marked the opening of the new Windsor Armouries. The armouries were constructed as headquarters for the 21st Essex Fusiliers and designed by David Ewart of Ottawa, the same architect who designed the Sandwich Post Office. The original building, along with the 1935 addition, is still the headquarters for the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, although a new facility is currently being built in another location. The armouries has been an important social as well as military installation for the whole region. Military balls, galas and indoor sports have been regular events throughout its history.
