History: Cooperatives were an important feature in the farm economy of Essex County in the 1940s and ranked among the leading counties in this field. Similar organizations to the Harrow Coop were in operation for the farmers of the Amherstburg, Comber, Cottam, Essex, Kingsville, McGregor, Mersea and Oldcastle areas. All coops handled grain and some handled livestock as well. They also bought supplies for the farmers, dealing through them in their respective areas.
