History: The 241st Battalion, Canadian Scottish Borderers was a unit raised in Windsor during the summer of 1916 as a scheme to increase recruitment. The company adopted the McGregor tartan, after Commanding Officer Lieut. Col. Walter L. McGregor. The unit was fragmented when it reached England. Men from both Essex County and American men joined the regiment, drawn to the distinct Highland garb of the unit. Many of the volunteers for the 241st came from the ranks of the 21st Essex Fusiliers, known today as the Essex & Kent Scottish Regiment.
