Description: Black and white photograph of the building of the Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel; the photograph shows the two tunnel tubes partially completed and partially buried into a deep trench; a crane stands on top of wooden planks at the end of the tunnel; there are a number of men standing on top of building equipment in the trench in front of the completed section of the tunnel; on the right side, at the top of the trench, there is another crane; planks and building materials are present throughout the building site; the top portion of the photograph has been coloured with blue and pink.
History: Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River was opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Company of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
