Description: Black and white photograph of the partially completed Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel; the tunnel is long and has short wooden planks lying on the floor; the walls are high, with a ledge halfway up the side; in the centre of the photograph there is a wooden structure mounted on the ledges, across the tunnel, and affixed to the ceiling.
History: Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Co. of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
