Black and white photograph of the partially completed Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel; the tunnel is long and has short wooden planks lying on the floor; the walls are high, with a ledge halfway up the side; in the centre of the photograph there is a wooden structure mounted on the ledges, across the tunnel, and affixed to the ceiling.

History

Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Co. of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
