Black and white photograph of the interior of the Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel showing the wooden beams on the floor; the beams run horizontally from the bottom of the photo, through the centre and disappear into the tunnel; they are close together and there are two in each row, one on each side of the tunnel; on the right side there is a ledge near the top of the photograph with building supplies.

History

Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Co. of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
