Black and white photograph of the ferry Essex at the Windsor Ferry Dock; the Ferry is in the extreme foreground of the photo and only partially visible; it is obscured by the roofs of two buildings on the right side of the photograph; two people are standing in front of the ferry; the ferry has two decks and a smoke stack in the centre; the roof of a third building is visible on the right side of the photograph; there are several very large ships on the Detroit River, and the city of Detroit is visible in the background.

History

The ferry steamer Essex was built in 1860 at Walkerville by Henry Jenking. It was sold to Sarnia buyers in 1877.
