History

Hiram Walker began distilling whiskey in Detroit in 1854. In 1857 he began acquiring land in Canada and began to personally supervise the construction of a distillery and steam flour mill. It was ready for production to begin the following year. The buildings in the photograph are part of Walker's original distillery built in 1857-1858.
