Faded black and white photograph of the Essex County Registry Office and Jail Building; there is a dirt road in the foreground of the photograph; there is a tall building at the extreme left of the building, partially obscured by trees, which is the Essex County courthouse (built 1855); in the centre of the photograph is the Treasury Office (built ca. 1879), a one-storey building with a peaked roof and rectangular windows; there are 8 men standing at the corner of the building; the jail (gaol) is barely visible behind the registry office; beside the registry office is a road running perpendicular to the road in the foreground of the photograph; on the other side of the road is a small one-storey building with a patterned roof and two chimneys, which is the land registry office (built ca. 1879); it is surrounded by small trees and a tall fence.
