Black and white photograph of the old Town Hall building, located on Sandwich Street (now Riverside Drive) between Windsor Avenue and McDougall; in the foreground of the photograph is a small patch of lawn and a short fence; on the road an automobile is visible travelling toward the right of the photograph; on the far side of the street the Union Hotel stands to the left of the Town Hall; it is a wooden, three-storey building with rectangular windows; a small "UNION HOTEL" sign is visible on the left side; The Town Hall is a tall building with two tall rectangular pieces flanking a peaked centre; there are rectangular and arched windows on the front of the building; there is a set of stairs leading up to the main doors of the building, and there is a wooden structure built at the top of the stairs before the main doors; the building is made of brick and has a stone foundation; "Old Town Hall June 5th 1917" is handwritten at the bottom of the photograph.

History

The old Town Hall building was built in 1856 and served the community until 1904. In 1904 City Hall was moved into the former Central School, located at what is now City Hall Square. The old building on Riverside was demolished in 1968.
