Description: Black and white photograph of the interior of St. Mary's Church in Walkerville; there is an aisle running up the centre of the photograph with pews on either side; on the right side, halfway up the photograph, there are three tall stone arches and pews are visible to the right of the columns; above the pews there are ornate light fixtures and along the left wall (and one on the extreme right) stained glass windows are visible; at the back of the photograph is the Chancel; there are three steps leading up to the altar, two wooden benches at the top of the steps; behind the benches is the altar with three silver plates and a cross; there are stained glass windows above some wooden carvings; the ceiling is high and has wooden rafters; above the altar the ceiling is arched
History: St. Mary's Church was built in 1870 on the south side of present-day Riverside Drive by Hiram Walker. It was dedicated on Sunday, January 8, 1871, was of brick construction, and would seat 250 worshippers. It was originally of Methodist affiliation but adopted Church of England services in 1874. It was named St. Mary's after Mrs. Walker, who died in September 1872. Extensive repairs were completed in 1885. The public school was located in the basement of St. Mary's from 1870 until 1879 or 1880.
