Black and white photograph of the James Lambie store located at 32 Sandwich Street West, Windsor; the storefront has two large windows to either side of the entrance; on the left, inside the window, there are boxes visible lined along the wall; outside, on the left, boots and pottery are lined up on a two-tiered shelf; in front of the window Mr. James Lambie is standing beside a square display case containing pairs of boots; he is wearing a dark suit and a black bowler hat; in front of the doorway are two men: Mr. Sharpe and Mr. Charles Nobles; they are both wearing dark suits and bowler hats; Mr. Sharpe has his hands in his pockets; there are two suits hanging beside Mr. Nobles, one is white and the other is dark; inside the right hand window ties are hanging up; in front of the right hand window is Mr. A.D. Bowlby; he is wearing a dark suit and his hand is resting on a hanging long black jacket; there is a second, shorter black jacket to the far right of the photograph; the facade of the building is partially visible behind the men and goods; the windows are arched and there are ornate columns beside the door and windows; "S.X. Photo Co. Essex, Ont." is printed to the left of the photograph.

History

Mr. Lambie moved his store to this location about 1876 when he left the store in Lambie Hall. Mr. A.D. Bowlby and Mr. Charles Nobles, nephews-in-law, then entered the business which, on Mr. Lambie's death, went into A.D. Bowlby's name. A.D. Bowlby was born in September 1860 and died in 1951. He was married to Emma Charlotte Wright.
