History

Silhouette of John Askin, fur trader, merchant, office holder and militia officer, born in 1739 in Ireland and died in 1815 in Sandwich. His first 3 children were born to the Aboriginal slave Monette whom he freed in 1766. He was a man of outstanding local influence.
