Black and white photograph of a sketch of the "Walk-in-the-Water" pioneer steamer on Lake Erie; the steamer is long with two high masts; each mast has two ladders leading halfway up to the top; there are flags on each of the masts and another flag (American) at the back of the ship; there is a round paddle-wheel in the centre of the ship with "Walk-in-the-Water" printed on the side beside a smokestack with smoke pouring out; there are people on the deck of the steamer; printed on the bottom of the sketch is: "Walk-in-the-Water pioneer steamer on Lake Erie. Sketched by Capt. James Van Cleve for Hurlbut's work on Early Lake Navigation"; the photograph is faded and dirty.
