Description

8 full sized medals.
Military Cross: silver cross with white ribbon with a central purple stripe; awarded to commissioned officers of the substantive rank of Captain or below.
The 1939-1945 Star: ribbon is three equal stripes: dark blue, red and light blue (representing the navy, army and air force); awarded for six months service on active operations for Army or Navy.
The France and Germany Star: ribbon of red, white and blue stripes (Colours representing Union flag, France, and Netherlands); awarded for one day or more service in France, Belgium, Holland or Germany.
The Defenbce Medal: circular silver with light green ribbon with central orange stripe. Awarded to Canadians for six months service in Britain.
The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal: silver circular medal with red white and blue ribbon. Awarded to full time personnel of the armed forces and merchant marines for serving for 28 days.
Queen Elizabthe II Coronation medal-1953: circular silver with dark red ribbon with two blue stripes.
Canadian Forces Decoration: decagonal medal with the bust of King George VI gilt in colour with a re ribbon and three white stripes. Awarded to officers and men of the Canadian forces who have completed 12 years of service.

History

Full sized medals of Colonel Alfred John Hodges. Colonel Hodges was a veteran who had joined the Essex Scottish soon after the Dieppe Raid. He commanded the Essex Scottish through its amalgamation with the Kent regiment in 1954 and later became its honorary colonel.
