History

The pistol is said to have belonged to William Lyon McKenzie and it was purchased from a relative of the late William Lyon McKenzie of Toronto at that time and was always repeated by donor's father as being Mr. McKenzie's. McKenzie was the leader of Upper Canada of the Patriot forces when the Rebellion of 1837-1838 broke out. In the attempt to capture the capital, Toronto, his forces were defeated and he fled to the United States. Some years ago the pistol was purchased by Mr. Marshall from the donor's father (J.C. Smith of Ridgetown)
