Item Name

crane

History

The crane was in use for about 30 years in one of the log houses built on Lot 25, Malden in the early 1830's. Altogether there were four log houses - Henry Wright's, Stephen Hubbard's, Daniel Botsford's, and Henry Botsford's. The three first-named had married three Kemp sisters and so were brothers-in-law, while the last name was a son of Daniel Bostford. In the 1850's and 1860's the original log houses were replaced by brick and frame houses built to be heated by stoves so the crane has been disused for almost a century.
