Martingale badge; brass with leather backing; ornamented crown, circular base reads "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" encircling, letters entwined

History

From Major Stewart: "Horses Martingale badge which was commonly worn by army police, mounted officers, etc. in the Victorian period. Not specific to any special regiment. Leather possibly part of Martingale, cut to shape of badge.
