(.01) 4 strings; 4 pegs (screws) wooden body; fingerboard and tailpiece painted black (.02) adjustment nut on end; hair strings; no chin rest; 2 stylized "S"-shaped sound holes; wooden finial on bottom; bridge is a modern replacement as well as strings

History

Made by Lemuel Dexter Galloway (1870-1932), donor's father who was a contractor, cabinetmaker. Father was born in 1870 in Bothwell, Ontario and then moved to London and then moved to Windsor. The cello was made in June 1905 in London,Ontario. Father gave it to donor's sister, Verna Gallaway. Family grew up in Walkerville (across from King George School) 1333 Windemere. Sister died in 1990 and the cello was acquired by donor. Donor's sister played it, she was told by father that she could have it if she could play.
