Description

White cotton; full-length; back centre opening: placket from neck to below waist, 7 buttons; round neckline, lower at front; neckline trimmed with wide, open-weave cotton lace which forms the shoulders and cap sleeves; flounce from knee to hem, gathered to bodice, alternating horizontal bands of cotton and cotton lace, ends with scalloped lace trim; another layer underneath is mainly cotton; cut in princess line; machine sewn.

History

Belonged to Mrs. Nellie Newland (nee Baxter), wife of Samuel George Newland who was an engineer at Ford Motor Co. They lived at 1670 Grand Marais West and also at the northwest corner of Pelissier and Shepherd West (Windsor).
