Description

Light brown wooden stock; black metal lock and barrel; percussion cap firing mechanism; smooth bore; metal butt plate; crosshatching in wood of stock near lock; wooden homemade ramrod, not original to musket; .69 calibre; half stocked English style; octagonal section at breech end of barrel.

History

This .69 calibre American military musket has been considerably altered from its original state by shortening the stock and barrel, possibly for use by a child, and converting the flint-lock mechanism to to percussion. The butt plate is missing. The U.S. arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, was in use from 1796 to 1861
