Description: Light brown wooden stock; black metal lock and barrel; percussion cap firing mechanism; smooth bore; metal butt plate; crosshatching in wood of stock near lock; wooden homemade ramrod, not original to musket; .69 calibre; half stocked English style; octagonal section at breech end of barrel.
History: This .69 calibre American military musket has been considerably altered from its original state by shortening the stock and barrel, possibly for use by a child, and converting the flint-lock mechanism to to percussion. The butt plate is missing. The U.S. arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, was in use from 1796 to 1861
