Description

Beige silk; long sleeves with foldback wing cuffs; high neck with fold-down collar; front opening fastens with large blackish shell buttons and beige fabric loops and one snap; same-fabric pocket on right front facing (inside coat); embroidered name on left front facing (see Marks); hand and machine sewn; unlined; seams finished with bias tape; sleeves are cut as part of the front and back; centre seam at back.

History

On paper clipped to coat when donated: "The early days of motoring necessitated dusters and veils, for obvious reasons. This duster of raw silk was in use about the period of World War I and has travelled a good many miles on our Canadian roads."
