History

Property of Adam Brown, Wyandot Chief, who fought in the War of 1812 (N.B. Battle of Brownstown named after him.) Brown settled in Anderdon after peace. The cane then came into the possession of Leighton. Family reside at Brownstown (now Gilbraltar, Michigan) and also at the Anderdon Reserve. Surprisingly, the Brown family, and probably other Wyandot families were able to stay on the Ohio Wyandot Reserve, the Michigan Wyandot Reserve (now Oakwood Metro Park), and the Canadian Reserve at Anderdon, at various times of the year. They were able to stay long enough to satisfy the Indian Departments agents, and both the Canadian and American governments. They are also on records collected from the 1850's as being in Kansas and Anderdon. The Wyandots were very migratory in all past history.
