Description

Wood. Shaft (.01) and grip (.02). Shaft: slightly curved; roughly tapered at grip end; two in-line transverse holes near bottom; one contains hard non-ferrous sleeve. Grip: oval-shaped dowel with transverse hole near centre; hard conglomerate collar above holes: earthy, somewhat metallic in appearance but not ferrous.

History

Found in the deepest part of the Cleary excavation. Appears to have been modified as a result of handle breakage, the shaft having been tapered to receive a "T" grip. The conglomerate may contain tar, in which case this tool could have been used in a roofing operation.
