History

Donor's mother told her that Sellers Mastercraft was the manufacturer. It was probably purchased in Detroit or Port Huron. The original owners were William and Violet Dougherty (donor's parents). William brought home the cupboard upon the birth of the donor (Dec. 28, 1919). William Dougherty was the first secretary to Windsor Real Estate Board at time of amalgamation about 1935. Family originally in Sarnia and then moved to Windsor two years later. The Hoosier cabinet was the baking centre of kitchens in the 1920's and 1930's. The built-in zinc flour sifter, sometimes big enough to hold 50lbs of flour, was the most famous feature. The pullout counter extended so the cook could roll out pastry and knead dough.
