History

Donor quote "Grandmother of donor - Mrs. Fergison (nee MacMillain) came here from Scotland in 1840 and settled in Elgin County." A salesman from a woolen mill in Galt visited the museum Sept. 1961 and offered the information that the wool for the pioneer blankets appeared to be Scottish. Also that they had been shrunk by the cold water method. In use in 1750. Comment made by Harold Burham (from the ROM), May, 1968, "Fine cotton warp. Hand spun wool. No specified period"
