Description

Rectangular oil painting done primarily in blues and greys; shows American sailors in ship's boats and one small tall ship; Foreground: water (Detroit River). Background: shoreline (Sandwich) with a church and several other buildings; many American soldiers are formed up on the shore; 2 groups carrying the American colours; sky has grey clouds, especially in upper right corner; from behind the buildings comes a single column of smoke, blowing towards the right side of the painting; Frame: 3cm wide mat of beige linen; surrounded by 1cm wide scrollwork painted gold, black, and red; surrounded by a 1cm wide strip of black; surrounded by a 2cm wide gold painted frame. Back: covered with brown paper; has a hanging wire with a hook attached to it in a small plastic bag; 2 white rubber knobs near the bottom (one on each side); gold address label with "St. Pierre's Framing Gallery/7641 Tecumseh Rd. E./Pickwick Plaza/Windsor, Ontario 948-1041" in black letters.
