History

The Braille system was named after its French inventor, Louis Braille in the 19th century. The system, created for the blind, consists of 6 raised dots or points in various combinations, 63 in all being possible. It is used in modified form for musical notation, mathematics, painting and writing. Called a New York Slate by donor.
