History

"The lace cape originally belonged to Jemima Micolina Baxter daughter of Rev. David Baxter who came from Edinbourgh, Scotland in 1853 and on arrival at Hamilton via New York, was married to William King and went with him to live at (Buxton?). William King founded the Elgin Settlement in Kent. She was Mr. King's second wife. The cape was believed to have been brought with Miss Baxter upon her arrival from Scotland.
