History

This plate is one of the multi-scene pattern "British America" based on Bartlett's Canadian scenes. This series appealed to the Victorian's romanticized view of nature and fascination with faraway lands (as Canada was perceived). In these views, Canada is not always depicted realistically, but rather with romantic serenity. "Indian scene on the St. Lawrence" plate made by Podmore. Walker Co.
