Description: Royal blue silk taffeta day dress; long sleeves with 3 same-fabric bands around wrists; shoulder caps with same-fabric piping design; round neckline with wide collar, trimmed with same piping; front opening fastens with hooks/eyes on bodice and wood fabric-covered buttons on skirt; 3 bands of same fabric on each side of opening on skirt; bodice trimmed with same-fabric piping design; Lined with ivory silk; A-line, 5-panelled skirt is very slightly gathered to bodice at above-natural waistline; padded hem; bow-like ornament of same fabric at back waist; same-fabric belt is attached to this, fastens at the front.
History: Bought in Ireland c. 1825 by William McCormick for his wife, Mary Cornwall McCormick. Donor's maiden name was McCormick. William McCormick was a successful Essex County landholder, politician and militia officier.
