Description

Outside thread - 1" diameter 2 handles; each handle has band near bulb of handle; 2 screws hold top attached to handled base

History

The screw box of the wood worker was for threading the outside of wooden pegs. It consists of two rectangular blocks screwed together, handled at either end and perforated with a hole at right angles to the plane of their contact. The hole, smooth at its entrance, is otherwise threaded throughout, and edged with a V-shaped, laterally projecting knife, coinciding with the top of the outermost thread, inserted thereon in a slot between the blocks and releasable for sharpening by unscrewing them. When the previously rounded peg is held in a vise and the hole thrust upon its point, the required spiral channel is cut by twisting the screw box, by its handles around the cutting hole.
