History

The Braille system was named after its French inventor, Louis Braille in the 19th century. The system, created for the blind, consists of 6 raised dots or points in various combinations, 63 in all being possible. It is used in modified form for musical notation, mathematics, painting and writing. The Hall Braille Writer was invented by Frank H. Hall who was a superintendent of Illinois School for the Blind, however, it was manufactured by the Cooper Engineering and Manufacturing Company.
